St Dennis is a small port on the Ile D'Oleron opposite La Rochelle. We motored sailed to make the access over the tidal sill which dries at 1.5 metres.
A busy and lively holiday town where we now had to decide where we would go next !
We had two options, continue down the west coast of France via Arcachon towards San Sebastian – a 15 hour sail with a difficult entrance - all the French Yachtsmen we spoke to advised against this as the winter storms have moved all the sands and the approach is made by following radio instruction from the French Coastguard.
The alternative was to bite the bullet and head for the North Coast of Spain !
