Our first crossing to France 2009

15th September – Wednesday to Pobra do Carminal

Another early start but well worth it as we motored down the Ria de Muros at dawn, accompanied by several schools of Dolphins who followed us for several miles.

A good day until we encountered the thick fog which came down as we entered Ria de Arosa. We took two hours to motor the final 8 miles to Pobra do Carminal in visibility of  less than 200 metres. We were completely reliant on GPS navigation supported by AIS & Radar.
We stayed three days in Pobra and caught the local bus to Santiago de Compostela.

The cathedral is an amazing building and being Holy year the worlds largest Botafumeiro ( it is 1.6m high, weighs 80kg and contains 40kg of charcoal & incense) is swung at each mass service by a team of 8 monks pulling on ropes.
